Half-Life - Guilt - Redux by Quinn-G Half-Life - Guilt - Redux by Quinn-G
PLEASE COMMENT!

Yep, I've revamped my popular Half-Life - Guilt deviation. The more I looked at the original piece, the more I thought "Damn, the outlines and shading are awful. :omg:" So, here we are. I've corrected the outlines in Illustrator, added some more wrinkles on Gordon's face to harden his traits some more and NOW I'm thoroughly happy with it. :dummy:

The main differences are that the G-Man's skin tone is paler and the test chamber screenshot is bigger. And since I'm such a sadistic prick, I've hurt Gordon! :evillaugh: Where the marks are from? It could be anything Gordon is unwillingly used to face: a headcrab's teeth, a vicious Zombie's slashes, speeding bullets, flying debris, explosions... well, you got the picture.

:icongordonfreemanplz::iconsaysplz: . . .

that's awesome too! Did you do the whole background or is it some stock image? D:

Back then, it was a WIP screenshot from the now-released Half-Life 2 mod Black Mesa that I modified to give it a sort of comic book feel, but I drew both characters. :D

Though the comment is appreciated, I urge you to look at my more recent works. They're a damn sight better drawn than my earlier works like this one.

Why does looking at the way Freeman is drawn here makes me think Half-Life should be an animated series on Adult Swim or MTV?

Well, all he did was push in the cart. G-Man was the one who arranged that specific crystal to be pushed in.

I love this picture! Since we never get to hear Gordon talk; I've always wondered if he ever felt any sort of guilt for causing the BM Incident. Sure it wasn't fully his fault, but I would feel pretty darn bad for pushing that cart in and screwing over the entire human race. Great pic bro

While this certainly does hit some emotional weak points, I've never felt Gordon could be held responsible for any part of the Resonance Cascade. Gordon's job at Black Mesa was basically reactor and spectrometer maintenance (this is an inside joke in the HL series; Gordon has a PhD in theoretical physics, and is always stuck with menial manual labor jobs). He didn't do anything to the Spectrometer except turn it on and load it with the sample, the same job he had been doing for several months. All the real responsibility for the catastrophe is split between the G Man, who supplied Black Mesa with the highly dangerous sample, and Breen, who was the Black Mesa Admin at the time and was forcing all the scientists to shirk safety protocols to get the G Man's "extra pure" sample analyzed faster

As for the pic itself, I have no criticisms. It's drawn beautifully, arranged and framed perfectly, captures emotions brilliantly, and is just all around awesome

Wow. I consider myself a hardcore Half-Life fan, but you're a tough competitor, man. :XD: But still, the fact that he pushed the cart carrying the sample must get him to feel pretty bad about himself. I just couldn't help but look at all the bodies littering the Black Mesa Research Facility and the invading other-dimensional aliens, and think to myself: "Did I do that?" My one hope is that Gordon gets the chance for redeeming himself in Episode Three and will kick the Combine out of Earth for good. If it ever comes out.

Aaand, that's about it.

Thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it.

Hardcore Half-Life fan? Not really, I just have a tendency to go really in-depth when exploring and/or explaining something. I guess I find giving lectures fun =P

Yeah, I see what you mean. Half-Life games can get so immersive, I find myself getting sentimental about digital crowbars! (That crowbar survived Black Mesa AND the 7 Hour War!)

Speaking of Episode 3, the whole story of the Borealis (Aperture Science's big boat, which Episode 3 will take place on) kinda creates a plot hole when you look back at HL1:
Aperture Science skipped safety protocols to save time, causing the Borealis Incident. Then Dr. Breen forced Kleiner and Eli's team to skip safety protocols to save time, and no one thought to report him. As a result, the Resonance Cascade happens (and this isn't the only example of Breen totally failing as a management figure)

I knew I wasn't the only one who thought Breen made a terrible main antagonist for Half-Life 2. But that's what VALVe had in mind for the character, so, what gives.
